Hills M2 Western Zone takes on a new look
14 May 2012
The new look and feel of the Hills M2 motorway is starting to take shape in the upgrade's western zone, between Pennant Hills Road and Windsor Road, with the majority of the new noise walls now installed.
"The changes to the noise wall colour palette breathe new life into the motorway driving experience," a project spokesman said.
"The new noise wall palette was selected by the project's urban landscape designers to embrace the colours of the region, including the suburban bushland of Devlins Creek and urban setting of Macquarie Park.
"The designers have utilised colours that reflect the changing colours of the local eucalyptus trees, including a dark charcoal grey and a deep orange.
"In a further sign of upgrade progress in the western zone, the widening works on the westbound carriageway are now complete enabling the realignment of the traffic lanes onto the newly laid pavement as work commences in the median.
"Eastbound widening in the western zone is expected to be completed in late 2012 at which point asphalting and line-marking of the surface will complete the process."
Works on the Hills M2 over the coming fortnight, weather permitting, include:
• Line-marking and resurfacing on Windsor Road
• Portal works and installation of mechanical and electrical systems in Norfolk Tunnel
• Ongoing earthworks off-motorway to facilitate widening
• Installation of new street lights poles and traffic signs
• Noise wall installation
• Surveying works
In addition, other changed traffic conditions on local roads include:
• Beecroft Road Bridge: the concrete pour on the bridge, scheduled for last weekend, has been postponed to 8pm on Friday 18 May until 9am the following morning. A contra flow will be in place and the speed limit will remain at 40km/h until 5am on Monday 21 May to allow the concrete to set.
The following table shows lane closures that will be in effect on the Hills M2 from Monday, 14 May until Sunday 27 May 2012 to facilitate roadworks as part of the $550 million Hills M2 Upgrade.
